The 3-2-1 Reading Method
Most books fade within days. This is the method I use to turn reading into action — one focus, two outlets, three resources. I rebuilt Dan Koe's 3-2-1 framework for readers, and I use it for every book featured on this site.
Feed on three sources — nothing else
Information overload is the enemy of focus. Junk dopamine feels like learning, but it only fills the day. So I cap my daily input at exactly three channels — long, medium, and short.
1 BookOne book一本书
The backbone. One serious book per cycle gives you a systematic framework and decades of distilled thinking. Read it slowly, at the pace of comprehension.
1 Long-formOne long video or podcast
A book is a single voice; a long conversation shows you how someone argues — the chain of reasoning, live. It adds a second dimension to what you read.
1 Short-formOne short-form account
One writer you truly trust. It is not for deep study — it exists to spark ideas and show you fresh ways of saying things. When it stops sparking, replace it.

Do this week:
- Mute or unfollow 90% of your feeds. Keep three.
- Adding a new source? An old one must go.
Force two kinds of output
Input without output is poison — it becomes the feeling of knowing instead of knowing. Output forces your brain to find the pattern and rebuild the idea in your own voice.
WriteOne card, per chapter
While reading, pause and restate what you just learned — in your own words, in a note, a blog, or a post. Not excerpts. Rebuilding is the whole point.
SpeakOne telling, per book
After finishing, explain the core idea to a friend — or to a camera. If you can say it with feeling and logic, it is finally yours.
-
The rhythm:
- One chapter done → one card written.
- One book done → one telling, out loud.
One real problem at a time一次只聚焦一个真问题
Never read "in general." Every 2–4 weeks, narrow your curiosity to one problem that is actually troubling you. Almost every human struggle lives in one of four eternal directions: health, wealth, relationships, happiness. Pick a specific one — then let it choose your next book.
-
Do this today:
- Write down the one problem bugging you most.
- Your next book must serve it. Solve it, then move on.
The loop闭环
Read→write a card→tell someone→solve your own problem→write the journey down→share it with people one step behind you
That last step is why this page exists. Every recommendation on Reads with Colin is a card that survived the loop — this website is what the method looks like when you run it in public.
One problem, three sources, two outputs. That's the whole method — the rest is showing up.
